Outdoor cushioned seating is awesome - it's like having a second living room... outside! But the maintenance is a headache - bringing in outdoor chair cushions, pulling covers on and off. And so, quite often, we end up sitting on soggy cushions or the dirty slats of a chair, forgoing replacing the cushions altogether.
Enter Batten, the Yeti of outdoor furniture. Durable, well made, and quickly and easily sealed up tight. The chair can be opened up, or 'battened down', like magic with just one hand, keeping the other free for a coffee, a book, or a squirming child.
The chair's style hints at a classic Muskoka Chair, with its kicked back rear legs, chamfered armrests, and triangular armrest supports, but is as comfortable as an overstuffed easy chair.
The cushions are deliberately thick and luxurious and covered with weatherproof Sunbrella fabric. Made of 5/8" thick recycled HDPE the chair itself is purposefully premium and substantial and won't blow off the dock or deck. With its concealed fasteners and very few crevices, the chair is resistant to heat, cold, salt air, snow, leaves, pollen and dirty urban condo balcony dust. It is designed for easy cleaning and longevity. Besides being made of recycled milk jugs and having replaceable components, the fact that it can be shipped mostly-assembled in such a relatively small box completes its sustainability profile.
Batten's clever design is unique and innovative and has been awarded both North American utility (CA 3216221, US 11,672,346) and design (CA 220663, US 29/867,212) patents.
